Nashville is a vibrant city with a strong sense of community and a commitment to helping those in need. Hands On Nashville is an organization that has been working to meet the needs of the Nashville community for over 20 years. Through their efforts, they have been able to support more than 200 nonprofits, civic agencies, and schools in Middle Tennessee. Amelia Young, David Joseph Weir, and Lee are just a few of the many volunteers who have dedicated their time and talent to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Amelia has been involved with several organizations, including Shower Up, The Bridge, Zeal Church, Nashville Rescue Mission, Mission 615, and The Laundry Project.
David has been a tutor at the Nashville Adult Literacy Council for 13 years and Lee works closely with providers at Vanderbilt and Nashville community clinics to coordinate the best possible equipment and treatment for patients. Ingrid connected McNeilly with Patchwork Nashville to provide 200 meals to families per week and worked with Root Nashville to plant 75 new trees on their campus. Charlotte worked tirelessly to ensure that residents of the North Nashville community had access to physical resources, such as canned goods, as well as information on repairing homes and protecting their real estate investments. The HCA Healthcare Foundation established its first community impact fund in 1997 to support Middle Tennessee-based nonprofit organizations. Hack for the Community is an initiative of the HCA Healthcare Foundation that invites IT professionals to create technological solutions for non-profit organizations in Middle Tennessee.
After a tornado hit the city, Amelia volunteered with other community leaders to create the North Nashville Community Garden. They planned the design, planted the land, prepared for the inauguration, and helped execute the vision. When a woman was released from prison with David's support, she recovered her job and finished her semester at Nashville State Community College with excellent grades. The leadership and commitment of these volunteers have encouraged other young people to serve in the Nashville area.
